What color should I paint my apartment?

I live in a nice one bedroom apartment. My apartment manager said I could paint my walls. However, I'm not sure what color is best. Right now it's pale white. I want something bold and elegant. I have a tan couch and love seat and my carpet is also tan. Do you all think burgundy would be a nice color? Thanks for you replies.
