I guess that IMing and such promote the use of slang, chatspeak, and leet. Most games that require quick communication between players also do this. Popular belief says that too much time in front of the screen can cause bad eyesight. At the same time, those video games can actually help improve reflexes, and are a good way to relieve stress.
