I have never been able to write a novel more than twenty pages:?
Write an outline, and spend a few hours or days expanding it - start with the overall plot, and know how the book will end before you ever start writing it. Then fill in the meat of the outline. Once you begin writing, you'll find that your blocks are few and far between, because with a meaty outline you're just adding details - kinda like having someone write the topic sentences of every paragraph for a school essay. Music is a great source of inspiration, but it has to be of a certain kind...songs that tell a story or about someone's emotions as they go through something. Your writing will always reflect your past experiences, that's what you draw from to actually flesh out your ideas - just be careful not to make your character a vague representation of yourself going through the same things you have. You want to draw on your past and your memories to understand what someone would feel in a given situation, without making everyone feel "the way you would feel." Good luck.
