How Was Ronald Reagan a Good President?

I'm not an Obama worshipper who takes random tidbits off of the internet. I actually lived through the Reagan years, and I fondly remember them as a time of prosperity, nothing of the sort seen since. And if the Reagan years were according to you "bad" then why did the nation elect Reagan's VP as President?
