Paragraph help please? Thank you very much!?

The villagers quickly became desperate for water to feed their crops and run their businesses, but they progressively came to believe that their water flow had been stopped by some higher power which had seeked to punish them for their unjust actions toward Jean. Manon publicly accused Cesar and Ugolin, and the villagers progressively admitted their own complicity in the persecution of Jean, whom they had never accepted nor felt worthy of their trust since he was an outsider who was physically deformed. Cesar tried to explain his actions, but an eye-witness stepped forward to confirm the crime, shaming both Cesar and Ugolin. Ugolin made a desperate attempt to ask manon for her hand in marriage, but the hat in her eyes was clear, and the Soubeyrans were forced to flee in disgrace. Rejected by Manon, Ugolin committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree, thus apparently ending the Soubeyran line.
