Is there penalties if Im married and file taxes seperately?

My husband and i got a free quote from a professional and it doesnt look very well for us. it shows we dont qualify for EIC which we always had. weve always filed jointly and we have 3 children. If we file seperately this year will it harm us in any way. Will we get in trouble? plz help
